The BlackBow rig is a multi-hook fishing system that is used for catching live bait. Currently there are only a couple of methods available for stocking your livewell. You have nets and sabiki rigs but both have their limitations.
Conventional sabikis are excellent for catching bait fish at any depth and are a more delicate method than using nets, providing livelier live baits.
However, they tangle very easily. This is because the main leader line collapses on itself which brings the dropper lines and all their hooks together.
They foul hook very easily, also because of the collapsible leader line. It provides no ability to control the position of the hooks and they will snag on anything they brush past.
The BlackBow Rig has been specifically designed for the same purpose as a conventional sabiki rig but with reduced tangles and foul hooking. This is achieved by replacing the leader line with a flexible rod (the bow), which forces the dropper lines (mini-traces) apart so that they cannot become entwined. It also provides the angler with more control over the hooks at anytime because there is a limited distance that they can travel from the bow.
Catching bait with a Sabiki is normally considered a 2-person job to keep the hooks apart and manage the catch. Using a BlackBow rig is a 1-person operation, so your 2nd person can now be fishing for baits too (with another BlackBow of course).
